Greetings from the President

Wenzhe Li, PhD, DABCC

It has been an honor to be elected to work with the board members and the NACCCA members as the President of 2004-2005. The dedication and effort of many has touched, inspired me and draw me deeper into this organization with affection. I am particularly in debt to Past President Dr. Jerry Yeo, who although no longer serves as a board member, continues to hold major responsibilities in NACCCA as Chair of Education Committee, and has provided much guidance and support to the board and myself. With a pleasure, I would like to share with you below the key efforts that were initiated during 2004.

Revision of the BYLAWS

With the wide availability and easy access of e-mails, it has been recognized by the previous Board and NACCCA members that electronic voting for election is feasible and more practical. The proposal to change the BYLAWS has been discussed in a July 2004 Board meeting and was approved by the Board. We have now incorporated the previous revision made in year 2000 into the BYLAWS and sent the most current version of BYLAWS to all members along with the proposed changes on Electronic Voting. A final vote will occur in the coming NACCCA annual year meeting in Orlando.

Fund Raising Flyers

As the Chair of Fund Raising Committee, I have worked with Dr. Stanley Lo, James Tung to revise the Fund Raising Flyer based on previous draft made by Dr. Edward Kang and Dr. Michael Ip. The new flyer aimed to deliver the basic facts about the NACCCA organization, to include information on how the fund will be used, and to provide full details on how to made donations on itemized fund raising activities. The finalized Fund Raising Flyer can be found in our Website.

Chinese Translation of NACB Thyroid Guidelines

In 2004, NACCA board has learned through Dr. Jerry Yeo that NACB is interested in translating the Thyroid Guidelines into Chinese. We determined that this effort would be of mutual benefit for both organizations (NACB and NACCCA) and the board has granted approval for pursuing and supporting the project both academically and financially as feasible. Board member Dr. CaiCai Wu was appointed to be the key person to pursue this task and she has recently issued a detailed report on progress made in this project.

Participation and Sponsorship in Meetings in China

As NACCCA’s representative in international education affairs, Dr. Paul Fu has worked closely with Dr. Pauline Lao to coordinate participation and sponsorship in meetings in China and Asia. A detailed report is included in this newsletter.

Annual Banquet

Our annual meeting will be held on the Wednesday of July 27,2005 at 5:00 PM at the Ming Palace. The round tables were designed to stimulate common interests and promote participation in a less formal chatting format than last year that we hope to help to built connections between the members. The plenary session by Dr. Jerry Yeo will highlight the evening with updated information and discussion on cardiac marker BNP.

I would like to recognize and to thank members of the planning committee, Dr. James Tung and Dr. Stanley Lo for their generous contribution and support in the planning of this year's meeting.

I would also like to present a special note to appreciate the institutions and their leaders for their generous donations to sponsor our meeting: Roche, DPC, BioRad, Acon.

See you soon in Orlando!
