2025 NACCCA Awards: Call for Nominations

Dear NACCCA Members,

We are delighted to announce the opening of nominations for the NACCCA Awards 2025. These prestigious awards honor individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the fields of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. Through these awards, NACCCA celebrates excellence, innovation, and leadership within our professional community—and we count on your nominations to recognize the most deserving colleagues.

Award Categories:

  1. Lifetime Achievement Award

    Honor an individual with a distinguished career marked by sustained and exemplary contributions to clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. Nominations should include detailed evidence of the nominee’s accomplishments and impact on the field.


  2. Distinguished Contribution to Education Award

    Recognize an individual who has significantly advanced education and training in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. Supporting materials such as letters of support, educational resources developed, or descriptions of major teaching initiatives are encouraged.


  3. Outstanding Leadership Award

    Celebrate an individual who has demonstrated visionary leadership and significantly advanced the profession. Nominations should highlight leadership initiatives and measurable outcomes achieved under the nominee’s guidance.


  4. Outstanding Service Award

    Acknowledge an individual who has provided exceptional service to the NACCCA community, contributing meaningfully to its growth and development through service-oriented efforts.


  5. Women in Lab Medicine Award

    Honor a female leader who has made outstanding contributions to laboratory medicine while inspiring and empowering others through her achievements. Nominations should highlight her professional impact and leadership roles.


Nomination Details:

We invite all NACCCA members to submit nominations for any of the above categories. Self-nominations are also welcome.

  • Deadline for submission: May 15, 2025

The NACCCA Awards Selection Committee will review all submissions and select awardees based on the outlined criteria for each category.

HOW TO SUBMIT A NOMINATION

If you would like to nominate a colleague for one of these awards, please submit a nomination package containing the following materials to nacccaus@gmail.com.

A letter containing an evaluation and appraisal of the nominee's accomplishments related to the award (max:2 pages)

·       Two letters of support detailing the nominee’s accomplishments related to the award.

·       The nominee's curriculum vitae.

Incomplete nomination packages will not be considered.


Who can submit a nomination?

Any NACCCA members may submit award nominations.


Can I nominate someone who has already received an NACCCA ward?

Previous the NACCCA award recipients may be nominated for an additional award if the candidate has made significant contributions in a different area that warrant such consideration.


Who is not eligible for an NACCCA award?

The NACCCA award recipients may not be nominated for the same award for 5 years unless the candidate has made significant contributions that warrant such consideration.


When does the NACCCA awards committee select award recipients?

The NACCCA awards committee reviews all nominations and selects award recipients in June of each year. Those who nominated individuals who were not selected will be notified shortly thereafter; however, individuals who wrote letters of support will not be notified.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award Selection Criteria:

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated unparalleled dedication, leadership, and significant contributions to the field of clinical chemistry throughout their career.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Career Excellence: The nominee must have a distinguished record of achievement and excellence in the field of clinical chemistry, spanning a significant portion of their career.

  • Impactful Contributions: The nominee should have made substantial contributions to the advancement of clinical chemistry through research, innovation, clinical practice, education, or leadership roles.

  • Recognition and Reputation: The nominee should be widely recognized and respected by their peers for their significant contributions to clinical chemistry.

  • Active Engagement: The nominee should have maintained active involvement in the clinical chemistry community, including participation in professional organizations, committees, and initiatives.

  • Ethical Standards: The nominee should adhere to the highest ethical standards in their professional practice and interactions within the clinical chemistry community.


Distinguished Contribution to Education Award Selection Criteria:

  • Excellence in Teaching: The nominee should have a proven record of excellence in teaching clinical chemistry concepts and principles to students at any level, including undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education.

  • Mentorship and Advising: The nominee should have provided exemplary mentorship and guidance to students, trainees, and early-career professionals pursuing careers in clinical chemistry, fostering their academic and professional development.

  • Educational Leadership: The nominee should have assumed leadership roles in educational institutions, professional organizations, or committees related to clinical chemistry education, contributing to the advancement of educational standards and practices.

  • Educational Research and Scholarship: The nominee should have engaged in scholarly activities related to clinical chemistry education, such as research studies, publications, presentations, or educational program evaluations, that have contributed to the knowledge and understanding of effective educational practices in the field.

  • Impact and Recognition: The nominee's contributions to clinical chemistry education should have had a significant impact on students, educators, and the broader clinical chemistry community, earning recognition and respect for their educational achievements and leadership.


Outstanding Leadership Award Selection Criteria:

  • Visionary Leadership: The nominee must possess a visionary outlook, demonstrating the ability to inspire and guide others toward innovative solutions and advancements in clinical chemistry.

  • Strategic Direction: The nominee should have a proven track record of formulating and executing strategic plans that have led to substantial progress and growth within the field of clinical chemistry.

  • Collaborative Approach: The nominee should have effectively fostered collaboration and cooperation among diverse stakeholders within the clinical chemistry community, promoting a culture of teamwork and mutual support.

  • Empowerment and Mentorship: The nominee should have shown a commitment to empowering and mentoring others, nurturing talent, and cultivating future leaders within the field of clinical chemistry.

  • Advocacy and Influence: The nominee should have actively advocated for the importance of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine, leveraging their influence to shape policy, secure funding, and raise awareness about critical issues affecting the profession.

  • Ethical Leadership: The nominee must uphold the highest ethical standards in their leadership practices, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability in all professional endeavors.

  • Impact and Legacy: The nominee's leadership should have resulted in tangible and enduring impacts on the field of clinical chemistry, driving advancements in research, clinical practice, education, or policy that benefit patients, practitioners, and the broader community.


Outstanding Service Award- Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to NACCCA: Demonstrated long-term dedication and active involvement in NACCCA activities.

  • Impact on Community: Service efforts that have meaningfully contributed to the growth, visibility, or success of NACCCA.

  • Leadership and Initiative: Took leadership roles or introduced new ideas that improved programs, events, or operations.

  • Support for Members: Actively mentored, supported, or engaged other NACCCA members.

  • Professionalism and Collaboration: Consistently showed a spirit of volunteerism, teamwork, and professionalism.


Women in Lab Medicine Award – Selection Criteria

This award recognizes a female leader who has made outstanding contributions to clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine and has inspired others through her achievements, leadership, and advocacy.

  • Professional Excellence: Demonstrated exceptional skill, knowledge, and impact in clinical chemistry laboratory medicine.

  • Innovation: Significant contributions that have advanced science, practice, or technology in the field.

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven leadership and commitment to mentoring and empowering others.

  • Community Engagement: Meaningful involvement in professional organizations and initiatives.

  • Impact & Recognition: Widely recognized for contributions that have shaped the profession.

  • Inspiration: Serves as a role model, inspiring others to excel and lead in laboratory medicine.
